Innovative High-Tech Start-up in Earth System Sciences Seeks CEO
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced technical leader capable of building a start-up from an early stage.  The right candidate will have strong experience with strategic planning and will illustrate an ability to lead key business development relationships and help close new investment in the business.  We require someone versatile; they will need to wear many hats.  You need to be comfortable in a startup environment where life can be ambiguous and chaotic.  You must be highly technical and have experience managing teams of computer science engineers, able to speak their language, and understand the milestone objectives they are facing.  You should just as easily break down complex technological issues for a non-engineer.  This position requires a great deal of organization, multi-tasking, and project management.  Our new CEO will be accountable to the multiple stakeholders involved, including but not limited to shareholders and employees.

Responsibilities
  • Managing all aspects of the business including strategic planning and investment while receiving strong support from an active Board of Directors (BOD) and existing key internal leaders.
  • Relationship building with potential strategic partners and investors.  Working with the BOD to analyze, nurture, manage, and close appropriate strategic and financial investment.   
  • Accountable to the BOD, including the construction and delivery of regular briefings.
  • Leading and managing both long term strategic planning and day to day execution.  Guide interaction and dialogue with diverse stakeholders, both internal and external.
  • Organizing, communicating, and managing technical projects and ensuring milestone success.
  • Managing and motivating key personnel.
  • Communicating both with technical engineers as well as the BOD, with an understanding of detailed information regarding the developed technology.
  • Engaging with both government and private sector partners.
 
Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience in high-tech, fast growing companies.
  • Strong organization skills, strong communication and interpersonal skills, excellent technical project management capabilities, and success with distributed organizations.
  • Leadership background with technical teams managing database and other software development.
  • Experience should reflect very strong knowledge of cloud computing, including familiarity with the strengths and weaknesses of different major cloud providers. 
  • Experience with strategic planning and managing a product/service road map.
  • Experience with AI and data analytics.
  • Inclination and aptitude for earth science
  • Prior CEO experience is not necessary, but your track must show that you managed technological development or product on an executive level. i.e., COO, VP of Ops, Executive Director, Head of Product, VP of Engineering, etc.
  • Must be intensely motivated to deliver results.
     
 
Other Helpful Qualifications
  • Management, Director or Executive level experience with a start-up.
  • Software Engineering Experience:  Head of Product/Project Lead/Project Manager.
  • Experience closing investments; existing relationships with capital providers. 
  • Experience with government-private sector partnerships.
  • Experience or knowledge of the science around weather, air quality, oceanography and other earth systems.  Likewise experience with and/or knowledge of weather and other environmental data.Experience and deep knowledge in this arena is not a prerequisite but a general interest in this science and data is likely a requirement for becoming an effective CEO.

We make the exchange of environmental data for operational and research needs for business, government, and academia as efficient as possible. 
 
We are essentially an environmental data hub.  We work with a growing number and array of data providers to help make their data accessible to many types of data users.  We provide a thin but critical layer of added value in both technical and contracting services.  Our goal is to be the largest and most significant service in our niche for the world.  
 
We are a Public Benefit Corp, meaning we are accountable to all stakeholders including data providers, data users, and the general public.  We are committed to stakeholders’ needs.  Part of being a PBC is that we are a for-profit company.  We expect to do well financially for our shareholders and employees as we are doing good for the world.
 
The company currently has the equivalent of 10 FTEs (some are currently contractors) and is in the process of hiring additional employees.  The company is profitable and cash flow positive and only requires investment to pursue very rapid growth.
